Deiter Bros. Cream of the Crop Female Sale
Dec. 4-5, 2007
Faulkton, S.D.
One of the biggest and best sales of the year in seedstock production was held by Deiter Bros at their Faulkton, SD Ranch on December 5th & 6th. Few, if any, in attendance would say their offering of Chiangus cows, Chiangus bred yearling heifers and selected heifer calves, wasn’t the most outstanding of any seedstock sale in the country. We as Chi breeders are very fortunate to have this noted, highly visible and credible seedstock operation on our team. The breeding value with the RDD prefix is respected throughout our beef industry and beyond.
Any breeder could have helped themselves, and many did, with the depth of quality available at prices that allowed for generous profit potential.
The “M” model cows (5 year olds) were definitely a very select group of just 17 cows. One was the dam of RDD Danica that sold for $50,000 to Doug and Andrea Corley and became the near flawless National Champion last year. She sold to Bushy Park Farm in Maryland, a new outfit to enter our ranks, for $10,350. Lot 56 sold for $9,750 to Rodney Hartman in IA. She had a son that sold for $12,000 in Deiter’s 2006 bull sale. She had 4 progeny with a weaning ratio of 107 and yearling ratio of 108 with a terrific EPD profile. Two more super cows sold to Gehrke Farms in Illinois. Lot 58 sold for $5,500. She is a maternal sister to RDD Polo and she is very impressive. Lot 56 sold for $5,000 and she is out of National Champion FBF Daisy 21K 2CA. Seven sons sold in Deiter’s last bull sale to average over $4,800.
Deiter Bros offered flush opportunities to three National Champions. RDD Danica looked the part of a Champion. Rodney Hartman of Aplington, IA came to exercise his right for a flush. He paid $15,000 for a chance to get progeny with her greatness. Chi-G Farms of Commerce, GA bid $8,000 for the right to receive at least 6 transferrable embryos with no limit on the top side for RDD Wiggles, the 2005 National Champion and full sister to the $100,000 sale topper in April, RDD Aces Image. Kearns Cattle Co. and Rockin J Ranch teamed up to get the chance to flush Ms Rockin Deuce 158R for $7,750. She was the Reserve National Champion Chi female in 2006.
When it came to the heifer calves, the electricity was very apparent. It was an amazing set of heifers, with quality to burn for showing, and “cow” written all over them. Again Gehrke Farms of Hartsburg, IL came to own the best. Lot 320, a Chi heifer finally wound up at $15,500. If nothing bad happens, she could be highly competitive. Lot 307 brought $11,750. She is an amazing creature and sure looks like a potential history maker. The Gehrke Family had the National Champion Chiangus female at the most recent National with Jim Horsely, breeder, at the halter. Another superior cow-show prospect sold to Rachel Booth of Miami, OK for $8,500. She’ll be at the Kansas City Junior National with Rachel at the halter.
The bred yearling females that comprised (with the exception of one) the entire 2006 heifer calf crop, were literally unbelievable! Several top herds in the land could have come from this group that made Chiangus breeders proud. In all probability, their overall real worth was more than the price they brought. Buyers knew that if they didn’t buy the female in the ring, another superior heifer would follow. The Lot 343 female sold for $10,000 to MMA Chiangus, Kenedy, TX. She had as much power dimension, capacity and overall volume as could be put in a female package and still be a productive appearing cow prospect. Many outstanding females sold in the $2,000- $3,000 price range where any one could afford them. There will no doubt be many standout future matrons in many cowherds in America. Their sons on the commercial herds across this country can and hopefully will make a tremendous positive difference to breeders, feeders, packers, and consumer palates.
It’s invigorating to witness and be part of a Deiter Sale. The discipline, teamwork , dedication and passion is exemplary.
