ACA Production Sale Reports

Schaefer Chiangus 14th Annual Production Sale
March 3, 2008
Northern Livestock Exchange
Minot, N.D.

Auctioneer: Jeff Stansberry
ACA Rep: Ed Creason

The Schaefer family should be congratulated on a very successful sale, not to mention the nice weather they had for sale day. They put together a great set of bulls with performance,  carcass merit and phenotype.

Jerry, Bryan and John have had a great spring. In January they exhibited the Champion Pen of Three Bulls at the National Western Stock Show in Denver and the Supreme Champion Bull at the KMOT Ag Expo in Minot, N.D. These events generated a lot of interest in their bulls, along with their bulls averaging just under 30% Chi.

The sale day weather and crowd were excellent. There was a very active crowd gathered for the sale and it proved to be a very successful sale for the Schaefer family.

The lead off bull from their Champion Pen at Denver and Supreme Champion Bull at the KMOT Ag Expo commanded $17,500 for half interest. Another popular Denver bull out of their younger April pen had a lot of commotion around him, being over 40% Chi, with the final bid being $20,500 when the gavel fell.

A Crush daughter sold for $7,000 and a full sib to Nemo brought $5,000. These two females will be competitive this summer.

The Schaefer family has worked hard to produce quality Chiangus genetics to fit anyone’s environment and it showed sale day.

Deiter Brothers 18th Annual Bull Sale
April 28, 2008
Faulkton, S.D.

As all prior Deiter Brothers bull sale weekends, the April 27 & 28 days came together in a professionally done Deiter family and friends hosted event. Sunday evening, over 400 commercial  and seedstock breeders, friends and neighbors who all understand the vital part Deiter Brothers bring to the Chiangus breed and the neighborhood attended a class event. There was terrific prime rib, entertainment, education and camaraderie.

The 400 bulls, including 200 Chiangus bulls, started to sell at 12 noon and was carried live on Superior Productions RFD-TV so many people across the U.S. could see and bid. What was described as the most valuable set of total industry genetics for a sale of this size, the stands full of buyer appreciated the superior value of the predominantly hybrid genetics produced by people with a long stellar reputation, total beef industry knowledge, passion and involvement.

Though there was not what many would describe as high sellers, the bulls sold rapidly at strong prices that averaged $3,437 on 386 bulls sold. The bulls were well conditioned and presented in their everyday clothes in large pens where they could be appraised for soundness, disposition, confirmation, condition and overall balance.

This sale is always a great, real world industry event with lots of profit-oriented  data and information to help in the decision-making. Considering the many  genetic blueprints, every breeder owes it to himself or herself to see,  feel, learn and profit from attendance. Many cattlemen wouldn’t miss it and understand the Deiter Brothers legacy of leadership in advancing the concept of the hybrid advantages in a role model example way.
